How to Apply

First-Year

Thank you for including SUNY Oneonta in your college search process.

Start your application for Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 now. The Office of Admissions will review applications on a rolling basis until institutional enrollment goals are met. General Admissions students will receive decisions from the Office of Admissions after October 1 for the spring semester and after January 1 for the fall semester.

Early Action

Early Action is a non-binding early application/notification program for fall first-year applicants. If you are accepted through Early Action, you do not have to withdraw your applications at other institutions until May 1. The Early Action application deadline is November 15. The Office of Admissions will start making decisions early December, and all decisions will be made by January 6. To be considered for Early Action, please make sure you check "Early Action" on the application.

There are no deadlines for transfer applications. It is recommended that applications be on file and completed by March 15 (fall applicants) or November 15 (spring applicants). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications completed after the recommended filing dates will be considered on a space-available basis.

International

Undergraduate international students (non-US residents or citizens) may apply online through one of the above applications. In order to be considered for admission, all materials must be submitted by May 1 for fall semester and November 1 for spring semester.

Graduate international students (non-US residents or citizens) must apply online. General information is available on the Graduate tab above.

Submitting Your Online Application

All documents required for admission should be submitted online through the application process.

Applicants must pay the $50 non-refundable fee. Please note this fee is waived for SUNY Oneonta Alumni.

Completed applications will be forwarded to the academic department for review. Official notification will be sent by the Executive Director of Admissions

*Literacy program applicants for fall or spring admission are limited to part-time study. Applicants for summer admission have the choice of full-time or part-time study. Readmission

Students who wish to return to SUNY Oneonta and who have not yet earned a SUNY Oneonta degree must apply for readmission.

Undergraduate

Applications completed after the recommended filing dates will be considered on a space-available basis.

Fall: July 1
Spring: November 1
Summer: April 1*

*Summer is only available to students who can complete their degree requirements in the summer of readmission

Graduate

Applications for graduate readmission are processed on a continuing basis.

Some programs have specific application deadlines for each semester in which a graduate student can matriculate. These deadlines are included on the Graduate tab and in application materials for individual programs.

readmission information

Non-Degree

Non-degree admission status allows learners to enroll in courses without seeking a degree at SUNY Oneonta.

You would apply as a continuing education student if you are:

  • Pre-Matriculated - planning on enrolling into a degree program at Oneonta or another institution
  • Life Long Learners - wishing to take credit bearing courses for personal or professional enrichment but have no intention of ever seeking a degree at Oneonta
  • Visiting Students - enrolled in a degree program at another institution but wish to take courses here to transfer back to their home institution
  • High School Students - currently enrolled in high school who wish to take college level coursework (must be senior status or a rising senior to apply)

Application Deadline

The application deadline is the Friday before the first week of classes for any semester.
