GPA Calculation

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR GPA

GPA = Quality Points/Graded Credits (sh)

Process for calculating semester GPA:

  1. List courses, credits, grades
  2. Assign appropriate quality points (QP)
  3. Add up credits for graded courses (A-E; NOT P/F)
  4. Add up quality points
  5. Divide the quality points by graded credits
Points Based on Credits
Letter Grade 1Sh 2SH 3SH 4SH
A 4.00 8.00 12.00 16.00
A- 3.67 7.34 11.01 14.68
B+ 3.34 6.68 10.02 13.36
B 3.00 6.00 9.00 12.00
B- 2.67 5.34 8.01 10.68
C+ 2.34 4.68 7.02 9.36
C 2.00 4.00 6.00 8.00
C- 1.67 3.34 5.01 6.68
D+ 1.34 2.68 4.02 5.36
D 1.00 2.00 3.00 4.00
D- 0.67 1.34 2.01 2.68
E 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00

GPA Example
COURSE SH GRADE QP
PSYC 100 (3) W doesn’t count in GPA
PROF 100 (1) P doesn’t count in GPA
ESCI 100 3 C- 5.01
COMP 100 3 B 9.00
ANTH105 3 E 0.00
INTD 107 1 C 2.00
PHED 145 1 B+ 3.34
Total GPA Credits 11 19.35

Repeat Courses & GPA

Using the example above, if you repeated ANTH 105 and earned a B the second time, the E you earned the first time would no longer count in your GPA.

NOTE: The E remains on your transcript, but there is a symbol (^) next to it indicating it has been repeated and it no longer is used in your GPA calculation (^E).

This is what would happen to your first semester GPA:

First-semester GPA
COURSE SH GRADE QP
PSYC 100 (3) W doesn’t count in GPA
PROF 100 (1) P doesn’t count in GPA
ESCI 100 3 C- 5.01
COMP 100 3 B 9.00
ANTH 105 (3) ^E doesn’t count in GPA
INTD 107 1 C 2.00
PHED 145 1 B+ 3.34
Total GPA Credits 8 19.35

GPA = [19.35/8] = 2.418 (do not round up) = 2.41

The B you earned upon repeating would be counted in the current semester’s GPA, and your cumulative GPA.

NOTE: Only Oneonta grades replace Oneonta grades.
