With many of the the campus facilities offline IT Services is committed to ensuring you have access to the software and tools you need. The college has a large collection of software that we make available in the labs and many of them are free or have work at home options. It is our hope that we can leverage these flexible license agreements, along with some remote desktop tools, to allow you to work on your personal computers the same way you would on a campus computer lab. Please visit our Build a Lab Computer at Home Self-Service Knowledge Base Article by Clicking Here.

As a result of remote learning and closure of most campus facilities, student access to Adobe Creative Cloud in labs and classrooms is not available. Adobe has provided temporary at-home access for impacted students, so that you can continue your work remotely. Please follow the Knowledge Base article below to enable access to Creative Cloud Desktop Apps on your personal devices.

We know many more students started this week with online or remote instruction; our thanks to you and to your faculty and staff who have worked so hard to make this possible. In an effort to support the work you are doing to help students manage this transition, we want to make you aware of some new or expanded resources:

  1. Drop-in Support for Students Available Now
We have organized live, drop-in, sessions via Collaborate to assist students with the transition to remote course instruction. The goal of these sessions is to provide students with another resource to go to for questions about the basics of online/remote course delivery, successful strategies for participation, encouragement to engage, and even to address fears/concerns.

Sessions will be staffed by SUNY personnel familiar with how to quickly address common student questions about participation in online/remote courses, connect students with technical support for remote access to their courses, and point them to appropriate campus resources. We have worked with your Student Affairs officers to ensure that we have appropriate campus contacts and resources to refer students to as needed.

Staff are available, live, now to assist! Staff will continue to be available at the days and times listed below:
    • Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 12:00AM Midnight EST
    • Saturday 10:00AM - 5:00PM EST
    • Sunday 1:00PM - 9:00PM EST

To join a live session, visit:

  2. A New Student Focused Website
A website has been put together by the SUNY Online team that includes: Resources for Success in Your Online Course; Resources for Active Military and Veteran Students; Mental Health, Nutrition, and Technology Resources; as well as links to the Support Guides for Working with Blackboard, BrightSpace, Canvas, and Moodle.
    Access the website at: https://innovate.suny.edu/covid19/students/
  3. Open SUNY Helpdesk Open to All
The Open SUNY Helpdesk is available to assist students at all campuses with technical support, including how to access their courses using online tools/technology. Many of your campuses already subscribe to the Open SUNY Help Desk service, but it is being expanded to support any campus courses that have moved to distance delivery. Your Directors of Online Learning are already aware of this. Access the helpdesk at: https://online.suny.edu/help/.

We also provide a Student Orientation to Blackboard. All current Oneonta students have been enrolled in this self-paced course. If you feel that you require any instruction on utilizing Blackboard, please use this resource. You can find the course on the Blackboard Home Page (my.oneonta.edu) under “My Organizations”.

Library services and resources are available online. See the Library's Enhanced Services, Resources & Updates page for more information.

Faculty/Staff Resources

In order to work remotely, you will need:

  • A broadband internet connection
  • A computer, laptop or tablet
  • (optional) Webcam or Microphone

We may be able to supply a laptop, but we cannot provide internet access. If equipment is needed, please contact ITS; employees should not purchase these items in expectation of reimbursement.

A variety of circumstances might require you to be flexible regarding the delivery of course content. Please visit the TLTC's Flexibility in Teaching Modalities for more information by Clicking Here.

  • ITS Customer Support is working on providing devices to Faculty/Staff for remote use. Before taking any SUNY-owned devices off-campus, please contact the IT Service Desk to make sure that your device is properly setup for off-campus use.
  • To participate in online meetings or to use your office phone via your computer, you will need a microphone, speakers, and a camera if you require video. Most laptops have all of these components but we may be able to supply a webcam if you need one.
  • Spectrum is offering free internet access to households who don't currently have broadband internet service and have a K-12 or college student at home.

  • If you can't get Broadband Internet at home, check to see if you can use your cell phone as a hotspot. Be sure to keep an eye on your data as your carrier may charge for data overages. The college will not reimburse data or internet costs. Many providers are waiving/lifting data limits and offering increased speeds.

  • If you need to access applications that can only be used on-campus, such as mapped drives or Banner, you will need to use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client software.
  • In response to the decision to move classroom instruction to other modalities such as online delivery, SUNY Oneonta is temporarily waiving the requirement for each employee to have a signed College VPN Policy before access is granted. Department heads at the College can request VPN access for staff in their department by submitting a Request at https://oneonta.service-now.com/sp. This request should include a list of specific employees in your department that you are requesting VPN access for. Employees on this list will be granted access and a response will be sent with information on how to install and configure the VPN client software.
  • Please visit ServiceNow Self-Service Portal for more information on how to access the SUNY Oneonta VPN:
