Congratulations and welcome to SUNY Oneonta!
At orientation, new students learn about SUNY Oneonta’s academic and behavioral expectations, college values, traditions and social opportunities; as well as connecting with other new students, returning students, faculty and staff members. Our goal is to provide information that will help you find your path to success at SUNY Oneonta. Our three step system is designed to give you the information that you, and your family members, need at key points in your transition to our Red Dragon Community.
Not only will you meet with faculty from your major (or area of interest if you are still deciding) and staff from departments that support student success, you will also meet your Dragon Guide- a student peer mentor who will stay in contact with you through your first semester. Dragon Guides also plan virtual and in-person events (staying within the College's COVID-19 guidelines).
SUNY Oneonta has a three-part orientation process:
All new students will attend virtual workshops during the summer in which you'll learn more about registering for classes, living on campus, and you'll meet your Dragon Guide. You'll receive a message in your SUNY Oneonta email with more details in May.
All new students are required to attend the August orientation session. As the college moves forward with planning for the 21-22 academic year, more information will be posted here regarding orientation dates.
The third piece involves programming and support for new students during the first few weeks of the semester. We know that you will have questions during your transition to college life at SUNY Oneonta. The Office of New Student Services is here to help you find answers!
We look forward to meeting you at orientation and at the many different events and activities sponsored by the New Student Services team!
