Why SUNY Oneonta?
I chose Oneonta mostly because it's close to my hometown. It was an area that I was familiar with, but Oneonta had a lot more opportunities, a lot more stores, and more to do in general. So I wanted something that felt like home but with more opportunities, without fully diving into the city life.
Women’s Rugby, Oneonta Photo Society
Rugby is my release. I was a cheerleader and did dance in high school. So I never did any kind of other sport that was competitive. Then I came to Oneonta and, my second semester, my friend was like, "You should come and hang out with the rugby team. You don't actually have to play." And I've been on the team ever since. I like how aggressive it is. I like that it's an outlet for me to de-stress, tackle a couple of pads, tackle a couple people, and have it just be so good-natured and respectful.
I was an RA for a whole year in a freshman building, and it was so nice to meet people who were just so eclectic and be able to watch them grow throughout the year. I studied abroad in Greece for a semester. That was very eye-opening. And then being on the Women’s Rugby Team has been a huge part of my college career. It's given me all of my roommates and my best friends – lifelong friendships that I know aren’t going anywhere.
Plans, Goals, Dreams
I want to be able to pursue photography for its creative aspect, not so much for the commercial aspect. So, right now, I’ll be happy if I'm able to find a job that I enjoy doing, even if it's not totally what I want to do, as long as it supports my means to do art on the side for what I want it to be. But I'm also looking into possibly getting my master's in hospitality management because I really love weddings. I might try to start shooting weddings, but that's really high pressure.
What I’ll Remember in 20 Years
Just the opportunities and the friendships that Oneonta has given me. I owe the college for that. Especially my teammates. Those girls are my best friends.
