Why SUNY Oneonta?

When I was looking at colleges, I started with looking at the academics because, since I was younger, I've always known I wanted to be a vet. So I started by looking at schools that had good science programs and pre-health programs, and Oneonta was one of the top ones for that. When I visited, I liked that the campus wasn't huge or intimidating. I was also interested in a lot of the clubs.

My Activities

Chabad, Lamplighters Leadership Program, intramural volleyball, Biology Club, Pre-Health Club, Ski Club, Outdoor Adventure Club

Best Experiences

All of the friendships and opportunities here. My top experience was probably the tropical field biology course in Peru with one of my professors, Dr. Florian Reyda. We learned about conservation of the rainforest in the Andes Mountains and did many hikes and learned about our surroundings, including a lot of the animals and plant species that are there. There were 16 other students who went, and they felt like family by the end. So not only did I have an amazing abroad experience but I made very close friends from it, as well.

About My Major

There are a lot of opportunities here where I can feel like I'm prepping myself for vet school. I took a parasitology course also with Dr. Reyda, and that helped me learn a lot of parasites that animals face and that I'll have to treat when I'm older if I become a veterinarian. I also took a zoo anthropology course. Even though I was studying animal remains, I really got to memorize all the bones of all these different species that could help me in the future. So there's a lot of different classes that can help me towards that. And this summer I had an internship at a zoo! It was amazing.

Plans, Goals, Dreams

To be a veterinarian.

What I’ll Remember in 20 Years

Definitely the friendships that I've made. I've only known a lot of my friends for a couple of years, and I feel like they're family already. You’re with them all the time, going through these changes. It's nice having a constant support system around you, teachers included. They always look out for you and want you to succeed and are always there.
