Why SUNY Oneonta?

I chose Oneonta because the first time I ever visited, the first moment I walked on campus, I felt like I was coming home. It was a weird feeling. It's the same feeling you get after you've been on a trip for like seven days and you walk back home and you're welcomed and you're happy to be there. That's the same feeling I got from coming on campus for the first time. And I thought, “I can't look at any other colleges. This is the one for me.”

My Activities

Harry Potter Club, Gamer’s Guild, Japanese Culture Club, Anime Club

Best Experiences

Just the fact that there is always something going on at Oneonta. It’s impossible to be bored. I follow the Corq app all the time. I'll go to our soccer games and rugby and things like that, or the comedy nights that we have. I don't know how they keep topping the last comedian, but each time they do. When the author of “Just Mercy” came here, I got to have a nice conversation with him. I was so moved by everything he’s done and accomplished, and I had to take a step back and I thought, ‘This is an opportunity I wouldn’t have had if I didn’t go here.’ I just came back from the Broadway trip, too. We went to see “Anastasia” in the city, and that was one of my favorite times. The opportunities that Oneonta gives us are amazing.

About My Major

I recently switched from undecided to Media Studies, and the department itself is very welcoming and they helped me realize that Media Studies was what I wanted to do. They got to know me one-on-one, and based on my hobbies they were like, “Communications is great but with you I see you in Media Studies,” and they explained to me everything about it. And that's why I'm excited to go into it because it shows you the basics of production and how the media itself works in communication. So I'm excited for that.

What I’ll Remember in 20 Years

I definitely think I'm going to remember the school spirit here. There's not a student you'll see without a jersey or a T-shirt. The sporting events are a sea of red. I love just how welcoming everyone is here. And I think that I'm always going to remember that there's a home here for me if I need it. I think coming here to Oneonta has also made me a better person – realizing that just a simple smile or holding the door for someone can change someone's day.

Plans, Goals, Dreams

One of my dreams is either to work for ReedPOP, which is a company that controls all of the comic book conventions. Either that or working with Marvel themselves because ever since I was little I always loved going to conventions and I've always loved Marvel and superheroes and things like that. So I thought why not take my hobbies and make them into something that I can enjoy for the rest of my life as a career? So I was thinking that with Media Studies I'll be able to get one-on-one and maybe get experience with these two companies. I’m going to try and get an internship and see if I can make an impact there and have them hire me later on.
