Theatre Department Safety
Sixty feet above the stage floor, students load counterweight onto the Goodrich Theater rigging system

The Theatre Department strives to maintain an excellent safety record in its studios, shops, and theaters. Care is taken to instruct and test students on the proper use of tools and equipment. Students are always provided with appropriate personal protective equipment including safety glasses, face shields, ear plugs, gloves, and dust masks. Helmets and fall protection harnesses are also utilized when working at height. Faculty and staff are patient and understanding with students having anxieties, allergies, or other medical limitations.

Preparedness is just as important as the mitigation of safety hazards. The Theatre Department keeps well-stocked first aid kits in several locations throughout the facilities. The scene shop is equipped with an emergency eye wash and shower. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to maintain CPR and first aid certifications through the programs offered by University Police and the Oneonta State Emergency Squad.
