A brand new Experiential Learning Center (ELC) opened this semester in the Hunt College Union, creating a bright, open space where students can learn about many of the hands-on learning experiences they can have at Oneonta.
Spring 2021 classes began at SUNY Oneonta on Jan. 25 and the college has put into action a comprehensive plan for a safe and successful semester. Developed with broad input from students, faculty, staff, public health experts, community leaders and elected officials – including City of Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig – the Spring 2021 Academic Continuity and Health and Safety Plan includes several new initiatives aimed at protecting the safety of the campus and greater Oneonta community.
For decades, the cement wall at the intersection of West and Center streets has served as a public billboard of sorts, where city residents and students from SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College take turns advertising events and sharing messages by painting words across the chipping, colorful surface.
On Monday, Nov. 16, SUNY Oneonta’s COVID Response Team shared its Draft Re-opening Plan: Spring 2021 and two upcoming virtual town halls to discuss the plan. The COVID Response Team also shared a Retrospective on Fall 2020. One change in the college’s COVID-19 response was implemented Nov. 16. Acting President Dennis Craig announced the appointment of Dr. Franklin Chambers to the newly created position of vice president for external affairs.
In response to country-wide protests this summer regarding inequality, injustice and police brutality, SUNY Oneonta has created “The UPD and the Oneonta College Community Task Force” to examine University Police practices and review police-community relations on campus.
