GROW

At SUNY Oneonta, students are encouraged to explore, try, fail, and try again. Here, academic growth means gaining not only knowledge and hands-on experience in a certain discipline, but also the ability to think critically, communicate clearly and solve problems. Whether it's spending late nights in the lab with peers and professors who believe in you, getting creative on the stage or in the studio, producing a talk show that airs on television, or visiting the world’s largest music products tradeshow on the other side of the country, students gain real-world experience that will serve them in their chosen careers.

THRIVE

In good times and bad, the Red Dragon family reaches out to one another and volunteers their time to help fellow students, staff and the community. At Oneonta, thriving looks like passing through the pillars, meeting up for cold-cheese pizza, and posing for pictures by the pond. It means majoring in elementary education and being president of the LAUGH club, or studying criminal justice and performing in a production of "Romeo and Juliet." Sometimes, it means starting a new club altogether. Oneonta students are warm, welcoming and well-rounded. They step outside their comfort zone, try new things and get involved. And in the process, they form lifelong bonds.

LIVE

Education is the path to a more purposeful life. For Red Dragons, living purposefully begins with raking leaves with teammates or traveling to Mexico to help with hurricane recovery efforts. Living with purpose looks like being the first person from your family to graduate from college, then going on to become IBM’s highest ranking female executive and starting a scholarship for young women studying STEM at Oneonta. Red Dragons who volunteer their time tutoring their peers or helping run sustainability events during Green Dragon Week go on to lead companies working to end climate change. At Oneonta, students dream of changing the world. And then they do.
