It’s easy to find your home away from home at SUNY Oneonta.
Living on campus is comfortable, convenient and fun, with lots of opportunities to make friends and get involved. Over the past few years, many of our residence halls have been renovated, with amenities such as fitness centers, kitchens, computer labs and front-loading washing machines (no quarters required!)

First-Year Students
SUNY Oneonta requires first-year students to live on campus for four semesters, with a few exceptions. All first-year students live in one of our double-style First Year Experience residence halls, which offer special programming and support designed to ease the social and academic transition to college life.

Transfer Students
Transfer students are not required to live on campus, but those who do must complete two semesters of on-campus living. Some transfers can choose a Transfer Living Community that features mentoring and special programs.

Housing Rate Guarantee
The price of living on campus will be fixed for each entering class, and will not be increased, as long as you live in our residence halls. If at any time during your college career, you need to leave SUNY Oneonta for an approved academic reason (including, but not limited to participation in an internship, study abroad program, student teaching, etc.), you will receive your original, guaranteed room rate upon your return.

Housing Options
All first-year students live in double-style rooms, usually with one roommate, and a common bathroom shared on each wing. After your first year, you’ll have additional housing options. We offer quad-style rooms with four students, suites with six students and one apartment-style residence hall, Higgins Hall.
Special Interest Housing
Gender-inclusive housing and the Marsha P. Johnson Housing Community – dedicated to advocacy around diversity initiatives and providing a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ students on campus – are also available.

Comforts of Home
There’s a reason why students returning to campus after breaks sometimes slip up and refer to the trip back to Oneonta as “going home.” At SUNY Oneonta, our mission is for students to feel welcomed, comfortable and part of a community, right from the start. From our Hunt Union “Living Room” with a view, to cashiers who know your name and go-to coffee-and-bagel order, we’ll strive to become your home away from home.

Eating on Campus
Find something to snack on any time of the day or night, including delicious options for vegetarian and vegan diets. From family dinners and fresh-baked cookies in the dining halls to late-night vending machine and Mills Marketplace visits, your hunger level and our dining schedule will always overlap. You can even cook for your friends or brush up on your chef skills in our full-service, do-it-yourself MyKitchen or smaller res hall kitchens.
