Literacy Education
SUNY Oneonta's Literacy Education MS.Ed. degree will prepare you for literacy and reading specialist positions and can be completed in one year, allowing you to enter the workforce quickly. The program ends with a practicum that incorporates research methods, literacy-based assessments and instructional techniques that current teachers will be able to apply right away in their own classrooms. Our program will lead to the All Grades certification. If you already have a master’s in education, you may be able to get certified in Literacy Education by taking only a few graduate courses.

Educational Technology
SUNY Oneonta’s Educational Technology Specialist MS.Ed degree prepares students to become leaders in K-12 schools. Over the course of the program, you will gain a greater understanding of instructional design, hone your interpersonal and technology skills, and learn to create and manage highly engaging learning environments. For students holding an initial teaching certification, this degree leads to recommendation for an additional New York certification as an Educational Technology Specialist and satisfies the academic requirements for Professional Certification.

Special Education
SUNY Oneonta’s Special Education M.S.Ed. degree can be completed full or part time and leads to an All Grades certification. Our emphasis on community will allow you to be involved in hands-on learning activities including a partnership with two regional organizations for people with developmental disabilities, Pathfinder Village and Springbrook. Special education teachers are in high demand throughout New York State and across the country. We have a 100% job placement rate, with many students securing positions prior to graduation.

School Counseling
SUNY Oneonta’s School Counselor (K-12) M.S.Ed. degree is a fully online program that leads to initial certification in school counseling, as recognized by the New York State Education Department. This program can be completed in two years (four semesters) on a full-time basis, with a total of 48 credit hours, including 100 hours of practicum and 600 hours of internship.

Full-time graduate students may apply for Graduate Assistantship or Graduate Teaching Assistantship opportunities. Available across academic programs and university offices, these positions provide valuable professional experience and include a tuition waiver and stipend.
