Built for Belonging

Belonging doesn’t happen by accident. At SUNY Oneonta, it’s built in.

Built for Connection

Moving in, finding your classes, sitting down in rooms where professors know your name and notice when you speak up. At Oneonta, small class sizes mean you make connections from the start. With faculty who mentor you one-on-one, invite you into research, or learn alongside you in studios and fieldwork, ours is a campus designed for closeness, not crowds.

Built into Learning that Leads Somewhere

Choose from more than 50 majors and programs and get career-ready with guaranteed hands-on learning experiences: internships, research projects, field courses or other applied opportunities that connect what you’re learning to what comes next.

Built to Last

After graduation, you’ll join a network of 75,000+ alumni who stay connected, offering support, opportunity and a sense of belonging that doesn’t end when you leave campus.

I honestly don't know whether it was the tour guide or the campus, but I turned to my mom at the end of the tour and said, 'This is where I'm going to go.' It just felt very right to me."

Common Application OR SUNY Application

Early Action

Early Action is a non-binding early application/notification program for fall first-year students. To be considered for Early Action, please select the "Early Action" option on the application and submit the application by November 15. Applicants will be notified of decisions in early January. Students admitted through Early Action do not have to withdraw applications at other institutions until May 1.

Rolling Admissions

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until institutional enrollment goals are met. We will begin reviewing applications the first week of January.

  1. Official high school transcript or results of GED/TASC
  2. Self-reported SAT and/or ACT scores (We are now test optional and will not require submission of SAT or ACT scores from students applying for undergraduate admission. While we will consider scores if submitted, SAT/ACT results are not required. If you would like your test scores considered in the review process, please request your official scores to be sent to SUNY Oneonta from your high school or testing agency.)
  3. One letter of recommendation from a school counselor or teacher

Additional materials are required for:

Art & Design (BFA) Applicants

If you wish to declare a major in Art and Design, you must submit a portfolio for review by the Art Department. The Office of Admission and Enrollment will review all applicants for academic preparation. If you are found admissible you will be admitted, but the major will not be finalized until the portfolio review process is completed.

Music Applicants

If you wish to declare a Music major, you are required to schedule and successfully pass an audition with the Music Department. You will receive additional information at the time of application. The Office of Admission and Enrollment will review all applicants for academic preparation. If found admissible you will be admitted, but the major will not be finalized until the audition process is completed. All auditions are coordinated through the Music Department.

Homeschooled Applicants

To maintain consistency in how we read applications from all students, and to ensure that we can thoroughly evaluate whether you've met the necessary foundation of skills and academic credentials to be successful at Oneonta as a home-schooled applicant, you must submit the following materials in addition to those required of all first-year applicants:

  1. A transcript outlining the subjects studied and results of your high school program through the end of grade eleven; or an individualized home instruction plan (IHIP) for all four years; or a complete portfolio of your work. Quarterly reports covering your entire "high school" time are also accepted.
  2. The results from the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Testing Program (ACT), if you are applying with test scores. SUNY Oneonta is currently test optional.
  3. One letter of recommendation from your parent or another person providing your education, and one letter of recommendation from a person involved with your other activities (e.g., clubs, internships, service, employment).

Once we have received these materials, your application can be reviewed. If admitted, we will need a letter from the superintendent of your local school district attesting to the fact that you completed a program of home instruction that meets the requirements of Section 100.10 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education. If you took the GED/TASC, then you can provide an official score result or GED/TASC diploma in place of the superintendent’s letter.

*If you have any questions about the process of applying for homeschooled applicants, please contact the Office of Admission and Enrollment at admissions@oneonta.edu.
