Glass Blowing Class Registration Options
Please contact the Office directly at 607-436-2548 or via email to conted@oneonta.edu to let us know which type of class you're interested in and your availability that coincides with the type of class you'd like to sign up for. We will coordinate with the course instructor to get you the class that works for you!
30 Minute Glass Blowing Class
In these competitively priced condensed 30-minute classes, students will learn the very basics and experience glass blowing on a simple level. This class will allow time for students to create a paper weight, or a holiday ornament. Artistic freedom is encouraged. Students aged 16 or older of all experience levels are welcome!
When: Monday through Thursday afternoon and evening appointments are available on a first come first served basis and will be coordinated with the operation of the studio oven.
Safety Rules and Attire: Jeans and a cotton T-shirt/shirt, or long-sleeves, flat, closed toe shoes or sneakers, and hair tied back. No flowing clothes! Safety glasses, gloves, and other sleeves will be provided by the instructor. It is recommended that students bring a water bottle or cool beverage for hydration!
If the above attire and rules are not adhered to, due to safety reasons, the artist/instructor reserves the right to cancel class.
Pick-up of finished glass items: Prompt arrival of agreed upon time and/or shipping can be provided for an additional cost.

Fee: $70.00 per student, per 30-minute timeslot. All materials included.
Class Size: Limited to 1 student per 30-minute timeslot for individual experience and personal safety purposes.

One-Hour and Two-Hour Glass Blowing Classes
In these competitively priced condensed one or two-hour classes, students will learn the very basics and experience glass blowing on a simple level. Classes can be taken on an individual basis, or in small group classes of no more than 3 people, for safety purposes. students will learn the basics of glass blowing shop safety, tools, and terminology. Classes will consist of hands-on experiences, where in a one-hour class, time will allow for students to make a cup, vessel, bowl, or vase, and in a two-hour class, time will allow for students to make a plate, bowl, or several smaller items.
Basic hand tools used in the process and glassblowing terminology will be discussed. From there, students will learn to make their own unique one-of-a-kind creations. Artistic freedom is encouraged. Upon successful completion of either course, students will learn how to gather glass from a molten state, shape the glass and come home with work(s) of art and an awesome experience. Students aged 16 or older of all experience levels are welcome!

Instructor Statement
A graduate of Hartwick College, I attained a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in both glass and sculpture in May 2011. I began my career as a glass artist studying at the Corning Museum of Glass in 2005. Since graduating Hartwick College, I have worked in multiple glass blowing studios, and most recently built a glass blowing studio of my very own.
Glass is my medium of choice because I am fascinated by the fluid movement of the material during the creation process. While blowing glass, a bright glow of light radiates from the medium in its molten state. The light captures my eyes and represents what I love most about glass, the bright fluidity of the medium when it is 2100 degrees hot.
Influences on my work may vary. Sometimes my focus is functionality, other times sculptural, and organic forms. The fact that glass is so versatile allows me to explore the medium in multiple ways. By changing the shape of the glass, the meaning and purpose of the glass object changes. I enjoy exploring these different shapes and how those shapes relate to its function. That is why I choose glass as my medium and why I create glass.
