FAFSA FAQs

If you do not see these funds reflected on your billing summary you will need to login to the HESCPIN Authentication System with your HESC USER ID and PIN. If you don’t have a HESC account or this is the first year completing a HESC application, you must first register with HESC.

Before your loans will appear on your billing summary you must first login to myOneonta, select my Financial Aid, select Award Tab, select Accept Award Offer, and finally select the correct aid year. Here, you will accept (or reduce) your federal student loan(s).

If you are a new student borrower you will also need to complete two online loan steps to secure your loan(s) for disbursement. Please visit studentaid.gov and login using your student FSA ID. Select "I'm in School." Next, select the "Complete Loan Entrance Counseling" link. After this step has been successfully completed return to the main menu and select "Complete Student Loan Agreement (MPN)." After these steps have been completed, you will see your student loan(s) reflected on your billing summary within 1-2 business days.

Visit studentaid.gov and log in with the PARENT FSA user ID and password. Once logged in you will select “Apply for an undergraduate PLUS Loan” from the options at the left of the screen, Select “Complete Request for Parents” and select the 2021-2022 award year (this is the Loan Application, step one of two). This will run you through the PLUS application. When prompted, enter a loan period of August 2020 – May 2021.After you have completed the Undergraduate PLUS application, you should select “Complete undergraduate MPN” from the list of options (this is step two of two). After you select this option, you will select “Parent PLUS Promissory Note” from the list of MPNs (this is the Loan Agreement MPN, the final step).

Typically, we receive this information and update accounts in mid-August.

Yes, you may explore Private Student Loan options. These loans are in the students name and require a credit-worthy co-signer. Oneonta does not have a preferred lender; we participate with all lenders. Research Private Educational Loans to find a variety of lenders that participate in this loan program. Oneonta is not allowed to make any recommendations regarding private loan lenders. Private Educational Loan applications are completed online at the lender’s website. Once the application is pre-approved the school is notified and will handle it from there.

You will receive an email over the summer with instructions on how to accept and pursue this employment opportunity.

Federal Work Study is an employment opportunity where students earn this fund in the form of a bi-weekly paycheck; it is not deducted from your billed charges.

You will receive a billing summary per semester; if attending a full academic year you will receive a Fall Bill (available in July) and a Spring Bill (available in December).

Yes. If you are enrolled in at least 6 degree-applicable credits you may request your student loans any time during the academic year.
