Make Your Own Oneonta Pillars
If you’ve ever experienced the joy of turning a pile of colorful building bricks into a work of art, engineering magic or just plain fun – try this out! With just 75 pieces and 10 steps, you can create your own replica of the SUNY Oneonta pillars.
Thousands of alumni have walked between these pillars, which were saved from Old Main, SUNY Oneonta’s original building, and installed on the current campus in 1980. New students pass through them as a group the night before the semester begins, marking the start of their Oneonta journey. As seniors, they walk through the pillars together again, this time in the opposite direction. It's a beloved tradition here at SUNY Oneonta.

About This Project
In honor of National and International LEGOTM Day on January 28, we used the iconic toy to create a playful replica of an iconic SUNY Oneonta structure. We were feeling nostalgic about the colorful building bricks, which have entertained kids – and kids at heart – since 1949, and were among the original inductees to the National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, NY.
Created by John Bugyi '03, a member of the Communication and Marketing team at SUNY Oneonta.
