Residential Experience and Housing Room Selection Info

2023-2024 Room Selection Process

Room Selection Information

The staff in the Department of Residential Experience and Housing is already working very hard to prepare for the 2023-2024 academic year. Room selection for the 2023-2024 academic year is starting soon, and we want to outline the process for you. The housing selection process will be as follows:

  • On February 21, you will receive an email with instructions for completing the housing profile in your room selection application. The deadline to fill out this form is March 8. Additionally, you can create roommate groups, or search for a roommate group to join, and you’re able to indicate if you are requesting to live in the Marsha P. Johnson community of Gender Inclusive Housing (see more information below). This email will also contain dates that Residence Life staff is planning to host residence hall tours for the suite and quad style residence halls and virtual information sessions via Teams.
  • On March 23, you will receive an email that lets you know that your Room Selection Timeslot is available. Timeslots will be created based on the number of completed credit hours you have accumulated at the end of the fall 2022 semester, meaning that seniors select first, then juniors, then sophomores, then first-years.
  • March 28-April 15; Room Selection will take place. During this time, you (or your group leader) will log into the housing system and select your actual rooms for next year. Once you select a room or a room is selected for you, no changes can be made.

Did you know that we will be offering a special interest housing option – Marsha P. Johnson: Housed in Grant Hall, this floor/wing is dedicated to advocacy around diversity initiatives and providing a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ students living on campus at SUNY Oneonta. Professional and student staff in Residential Experience and Housing, in conjunction with the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center provide intentional and educational programming with a focus around gender issues and the LGBTQIA+ community.

We will continue to offer our Gender Inclusive Housing as well. This is designed to allow students of any gender identity/sexual orientation to live together within one living unit in a supportive environment. Although we will always strive to provide spaces that are inclusive, we recognize the unique experiences and needs of students with various gender identities.

A few items to note:

  1. Hays, Huntington, Grant, Blodgett, Macduff, and Matteson Halls will be available for selection for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors for the 2023-2024 academic year.

  2. Ford and Sherman Hall will go offline for the 2023-2024 academic year to undergo renovations.

  3. Higgins and Curtis Halls will both follow the On Campus Alcohol Policy (Formerly known as the Higgins Alcohol Policy) for the 2023-2024 academic year. Curtis Hall will also offer 32 designed single bedroom spaces throughout the residence hall. Curtis Hall residents will still be automatically assigned to the all you care to enjoy Resident Dining Plan. This cannot be changed.

  4. Quad, Suite and apartment style living are very popular with our returning students. Unfortunately, there are always a shortage of these types of units, so we suggest that you have a back-up plan (a quad and a double, 3 doubles near each other, etc.) in the event that there are no suites or apartments available at your appointment time.

  5. Golding, Littell, Tobey, and Hulbert will be reserved for new incoming students only.

The Residential Experience and Housing Team will be hosting a Housing Selection Info Session on Monday, February 27th at 3 PM in IRC 4 for anyone who may have questions.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this process by reaching out via email to or 607-436-2514.

By March 8:

Roommate group selection and verification needs to be completed before your room selection timeslot. Timeslot times will be available on March 23rd and selection will begin on March 28.

  1. Log in to myOneonta using your Oneonta credentials.

  1. Click on Residence Life Portal on the left side of the screen.

  1. Log into the Residence Life Portal by clicking on the blue “Oneonta-Student SSO Login” button at the bottom of the page. You may already be logged in, and not need to perform this step.

  1. Click on “Housing Application and Returning Student Room Selection” in the menu, or on the menu bar.

  1. Click on the blue “Apply” button next to “Academic Year 2023-2024” to enter the application.

  1. Proceed through the application by reviewing all the information you have already provided and clicking “Save & Continue” on each page.

  1. After the Residence Hall License Agreement page, you will reach the roommate groups page. From this page, you can:

    1. Create a roommate group including you and up to 5 requested roommates **It is important to note that while you will be able to create a roommate group of up to 6 total students, there are a limited number of units that will accommodate groups of 3-6 students. You are NOT GUARANTEED to be able to select a unit to house up to 6 students, based on the spaces available at your room selection timeslot. Given this information, you should make multiple plans for room selection. If there are no units available to accommodate your entire group, the group leader will be able to separate the group into different units during room selection.**

    2. Join a roommate group that has already been created by one of your requested roommates

    3. Search for a roommate group that has been created

    4. Search for roommates by details (ex, the requested roommate’s Screen Name)

    5. Search for roommates by Profiles, using the roommate matching questions you answered earlier in this application

    6. Ask the portal to suggest roommates for you.

    7. Once your roommate group has been created and verified, all group members will receive a confirmation e-mail. No additional adjustments to your roommate group will be permitted once your group has been verified.

Check your email for a detailed PDF and video for more information.
