SUNY Oneonta is committed to making internship experiences available to all students on campus. We are pleased to offer several internship funding options for SUNY Oneonta students. By completing the application form, you will be considered for funding for internship-related expenses including transportation, living expenses, technology, and more!

By applying, you will be considered for each of the awards you are eligible for. Please review application instructions for the appropriate term before submitting the electronic form. Priority will be given to students completing internships for academic credit. Important: Students completing international internships must apply for funding through the Office of Global Education. Students completing internships for Business Economics or Business Administration should reach out directly to the department for funding opportunities.

Summer 2022 Application Fall 2022 Application

Application Form

Complete the online application form to apply for funding. Note: application for Summer 2022 is now open.

It is important to note that there are two ways to complete your funding application. You may:

  1. Apply for pre-approval. Apply for funding before you begin looking for your internship. Example: Students who want to intern in New York City, but don’t have access to transportation, may want to apply for guaranteed train fare before looking for a specific internship.

  1. Apply for funding with an approved internship. You must have an approved internship in Handshake.

Note: This application is separate from your application to gain credit for an internship. Funding up to $3,000 will be awarded.

Key Dates

Please review the dates below before submitting your internship funding application.

        Spring 2022 Internships: CLOSED

  • November 15, 2022: Deadline to apply for pre-approved funding
  • January 14, 2022: Deadline for funding applications for fully approved (registered) internships. Note: Students who received pre-approved funding must have an approved internship by this deadline.

    Summer 2022 Internships

  • March 25, 2022: Deadline to apply for pre-approved funding.
  • June 3, 2022: Deadline for funding applications for fully approved (registered) internships. Note: Students who received pre-approved funding must have an approved internship by this deadline.

    Fall 2022 Internships

  • May 20, 2022: Deadline to apply for pre-approved funding.
  • August 15, 2022: Deadline for funding applications for fully approved (registered) internships. Note: Students who received pre-approved funding must have an approved internship by this deadline.

Pre-approved funding is available so you can feel confident in applying for internships that have additional costs. For example, if you would like to apply to internships in a certain region that requires transportation costs, a pre-approval for train fare can alleviate limitations on your internship search.

To apply for pre-approved funding:

  • Meet with your faculty sponsor to discuss the possibility of doing an internship and where you might want to do one. Your faculty sponsor will need to email internships@oneonta.edu acknowledging that you have met with them and that they support your internship.
  • Complete the application form before the pre-approval due date and indicate that you are applying for pre-approval.

Important: If you receive pre-approved funding, you must have an approved internship by the deadline listed in your award letter. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of awarded funding.

Funding can be applied for the following expenses:

Expense

Notes

Transportation

Transportation includes gas, train fare, bus fare, etc.

Clothing

Certain positions may have a dress code or required safety materials.

Lost Wages

To be considered for lost wages you will need to provide a calculation of the lost amount based on your current position as well as what those wages cover.

(Hourly rate at current position) x (Hours lost at position due to internship) = (Funding Recommendation)

Food

This can include groceries, on-site lunches, etc.

Housing

Be specific when including anticipated housing costs for the specified area.

Technology

Include cost of the specific device, program, equipment, etc.

Other

Additional supplies required for internship.

  • You must include itemized amounts for your funding requests to be considered. Applications without a specific amount requested will not be considered.
  • Typically, funding awards fall between $250-$3500.
  • Your application will be considered for full or partial funding. This means that while you may not receive all the funding you requested, you could still be awarded a portion of the total amount.
