Note that the Career Development Center only awards funding to students completing internships for academic credit.

  2024 SPRING Application

Application Form

Complete the online application form to apply for funding. Note: applications for Spring 2024 will open on January 3, 2024.

It is important to note that there are two ways to complete your funding application. You may:

  1. Apply for pre-approval. Apply for funding before you begin looking for your internship. Example: Students who want to intern in New York City, but don’t have access to transportation, may want to apply for guaranteed train fare before looking for a specific internship.

  1. Apply for funding with an approved internship. You must have an approved internship in Handshake.

Note: This application is separate from your application to gain credit for an internship. Funding up to $3,000 will be awarded.

INTERNSHIP TERM APPLICATION OPENS APPLICATION DEADLINE Internship needs to be confirmed by
Spring 2024 October 14, 2023 November 15, 2023 February 2, 2024*
Summer 2024 March 14, 2024 April 14, 2024 June 3, 2024*
Fall 2024 May 3, 2024 June 3, 2024 September 15, 2024*

*Note: Students who received pre-approved funding must have an approved internship by this deadline.

Pre-approved funding is available so you can feel confident in applying for internships that have additional costs. For example, if you would like to apply to internships in a certain region that requires transportation costs, a pre-approval for train fare can alleviate limitations on your internship search.

To apply for pre-approved funding:

  • Meet with your faculty sponsor to discuss the possibility of doing an internship and where you might want to do one.
  • Complete the application form before the pre-approval due date and indicate that you are applying for pre-approval.

Important: If you receive pre-approved funding, you must have an approved internship by the deadline listed in your award letter. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of awarded funding.

Funding can be applied for the following expenses:

Expense

Notes

Transportation

Transportation includes gas, train fare, bus fare, etc. For gas expenses, please include estimates based on distance traveled, your car's miles per gallon, and current gas prices per gallon. For example: "I will travel a total of 300 miles during my internship (10 miles each way--20 miles/trip-and I will visit my internship site 15 times. My car gets 25 miles/gallon, so I will use 12 total gallons of gas during my internship. Gas is currently $3.89/gallon. The total estimate of my gas expenses is  $46.68."

Clothing

Certain positions may have a dress code or required safety materials. Please include a specific estimate for clothing, based on an internet or brick-and-mortar quote. For example: "I need to wear a blazer and a white shirt while at my internship. Based on an internet search, blazers cost $34.99 at TJ Maxx. White button-down shirts cost $24.99. I would like to purchase three of each, bringing my clothing estimate total to $104.97 (blazers) and $74.97 (shirts), or $179.94."

Lost Wages

To be considered for lost wages you will need to provide a calculation of the lost amount based on your current position as well as what those wages cover.

(Hourly rate at current position) x (Hours lost at position due to internship) = (Funding Recommendation)

Food

This can include groceries, on-site lunches, etc. Be specific: How many lunches? What is the average cost of lunch?

Housing

Be specific when including anticipated housing costs for the specified area.

Technology

Include cost of the specific device, program, equipment, etc. Use a specific quote from an internet or brick-and-mortar search.

Other

Additional supplies required for internship: be specific!

  • You must include itemized amounts for your funding requests to be considered. Applications without a specific amount requested will not be considered.
  • Typically, funding awards fall between $250-$3000.
  • Your application will be considered for full or partial funding. This means that while you may not receive all the funding you requested, you could still be awarded a portion of the total amount.
