OUR WORK INCLUDES:
Web and Digital Communications
Communication and Marketing oversees the college’s top-level web presence and is responsible for setting digital communications standards and best practices for the college.
The SUNY Oneonta website was one of six finalists in the Higher Education category of the 2017 Acquia Engage Awards, which recognize websites for an advanced level of visual design, functionality, integration and overall user experience. Our web team provides training and support to campus web editors on best practices for web usability, accessibility and effective content. In 2017-18, we coordinated the migration of more than 80 departmental, office and general microsites to the college's mobile-friendly Drupal content management system.
We work closely with local, regional and national media to identify newsworthy campus initiatives and research by faculty, staff and students. We help our faculty, staff and students prepare for interviews and manage issues that may be of interest to the media.
Our news and media relations team distributes news releases and pitches stories to local, regional and media outlets, resulting in placements in media outlets across the country.
We are passionate about celebrating and promoting our students’ stories, and we develop and distribute hundreds of personalized news releases about our students' awards, experiential-learning experiences, graduation and other accomplishments every year. These achievements are published on SUNY Oneonta’s Merit Pages, where students develop profiles highlighting their achievements, activities and work experience at SUNY Oneonta. In 2018, we delivered 6,131 personalized stories to key target audiences including 3,410 students, 3,266 parents, 695 media outlets, 331 elected officials, and 642 high schools. These resulted in over 18,000 social media shares, more than 70,000 page views, and an estimated 6.3 million social media impressions! Details about how and where we shared news of students’ achievements are available in the 2018 Merit report.
Our social media team produces written and multimedia content for SUNY Oneonta's five institutional social media channels: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube. Our content strategy is data-driven, and we are constantly trying out new tools and ideas, evaluating their success and refining our approach. We frequently collaborate with other units and advise other campus communicators on social media best practices, tools and trends through the college's Social Media Users Group, which meets monthly.
SUNY Oneonta's social media channels reach a wide and growing audience of current and prospective students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and community members. In 2017-18, our social media content was viewed 4.8 million times!
Advertising and Marketing
We help advance the institution’s brand strength and market position while supporting SUNY Oneonta’s mission and goals.

For example, a 2018 marketing campaign conducted in collaboration with the Office of Continuing Education and Summer Session contributed to a 22% increase in undergraduate Summer Session revenue.
Communication and Marketing oversees the college’s Print Shop, which provides a full range of printing and finishing services to the campus community and external clients.
With an average turnaround time of 1.1 days, the campus Print Shop provides fast, professional service to the campus community. In 2017-18, we processed 9,381 jobs, including 364 jobs for students through the new Dragon Print service, launched in October 2017.
Identity and Brand Management
Communication and Marketing provides guidance and oversees efforts to maintain a consistent identity and brand, as we work collaboratively with external-facing campus units to tell SUNY Oneonta’s story to the world.
Our Chief Communication and Marketing Officer leads the college's Institutional Communication Group, which addresses everything from college mascot appearances to campus sign replacements. Our office led the development of the SUNY Oneonta Style Guide, which aims to ensure consistency across media by answering the most common questions about logos, typefaces, college colors and other things that contribute to institutional identity.
In the event of an emergency, whether it's an incident on campus or severe weather that affects college operations, our team works with University Police and other campus officials to provide timely, pertinent information to the campus community.
Urgent communication updates are issued through the college’s RAVE messaging system, the college home page, the myOneonta campus portal, and the institutional Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Our team produces high-quality copy, design, photography, videography and printed products that tell that the SUNY Oneonta story.
Our staff takes hundreds of photos each year that capture the essence of SUNY Oneonta. We share these with the campus community through the SUNY Oneonta Photo Library, which features more than 200 galleries of campus life, events, people and places.
