The Federal Work Study program provides students the opportunity to earn spending money and gain valuable work experience while in school. Eligibility is based on your estimated family contribution and the timeliness of your application. The amount of the award represents the budgeted maximum that a student may earn from Federal Work Study in that award year. Students are paid bi-weekly and usually earn minimum wage. These funds cannot be used to defer charges.
If your award package contains a Federal Work Study (FWS) Award you will receive an email notification to accept the award. Students with accepted FWS awards will then receive an email with instructions to begin the job selection process. Please read the instruction sheet carefully so that you may find a job that is compatible with your work experience and your class schedule.
First-time participants in the Federal Work Study program will need to bring to campus original documents to establish identity and employment authorization. A U.S. passport can be used to establish both OR a driver license or state ID card AND the original Social Security card can be used. Further instructions on this will be emailed as well.
Note: Federal Work Study awards are contingent upon SUNY Oneonta receiving adequate federal funds to support these programs. State and federal budget discussions may lead to changes in funding levels, cost increases or regulatory changes.
Part-time student employment
In addition to the Federal Work Study Program, Student Employment Services provides students access to part-time employment information both on and off-campus.
