Transfer student orientation is the first step in making a smooth transition to life at SUNY Oneonta. During our in-person orientation sessions, you will be introduced to SUNY Oneonta’s academic and behavioral expectations; exposed to college values, traditions and social opportunities; as well as connecting with other new students, returning students, faculty and staff members. View orientation dates and programs.
Every semester, New Student Services collaborates with offices on campus to provide stellar programs and events for transfer students. Some of these traditions are the Student Success Series, Dragon Guide programs, Tau Sigma Honor Society, and the Transfer Student Club. You can find more information about each tradition below.
Student Success Series
An important aspect of our campus is the opportunity for students to develop their leadership potential. Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) credit is available to all students and all you have to do is attend programs and events.
The New Student Services Office invites members of the campus to discuss their resources and how they will specifically help transfer students through a series of programs called The Student Success Series (S3). Not only will transfers learn more about what resources are available to them, but they will also gain valuable LEAD credit. Some topics in the past included: Internships, Alumni Engagement, Credit Transfer Process, and many more!
Transfer students can count their involvement in clubs/organizations as well as previous event attendance at their prior institution(s) towards LEAD@Oneonta credit. Email Lead@oneonta.edu to learn more. Learn more by logging into Campus Connections with your Oneonta user name and password.
The Dragon Guides are a group of students who are specifically trained to help new students navigate their first semester. All new transfer students will hear from their Dragon Guide each week via email or Microsoft Teams. The Dragon Guides are here to help you get acclimated to SUNY Oneonta through programs, social events, and meet ups in "The Lounge", a hang out spot specifically for new students in the Hunt College Union. Would you like to learn more about the Dragon Guide program? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
Tau Sigma Honor Society
We're excited to welcome transfer students into this honor society who earn either a 3.5 GPA or earn a GPA within the top 20% of their incoming cohort their first semester. Some perks of being a member of Tau Sigma include access to faculty mentorship, opportunities to serve in a leadership role within the chapter, excellent way to showcase academic talents on a resume, and apply for a national scholarship. Send us an email at email@example.com if you'd like to learn more!
Transfer Student Club
Any and all are welcome to join the Transfer Student Club! Created just last year, this club is dedicated to making sure each transfer student has a place on campus. Check it out on the Transfer Student Club Facebook, Transfer Student Club Instagram or Campus Connection.
