SUNY Oneonta will welcome Nobel Prize-winning physicist Dr. Ivar Giaever on Friday, Oct. 7, for a guest lecture on superconductivity. He is the keynote speaker of a joint meeting of the New York State Sections of the American Physical Society (NYSS-APS) and the American Association of Physics Teachers (NYSS-AAPT), hosted by the college's Department of Physics & Astronomy.

SUNY Oneonta students Daniel McCahill of Elmira, N.Y., and Samantha Moak of Westerlo, N.Y. are two of just 44 recipients of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) 2011 Excellence in Accounting Scholarships. Both McCahill and Moak are seniors in the college's Professional Accounting program. Each will receive a $2,500 award.

Dr. Cynthia G. Falk, winner of SUNY Oneonta’s 2011 Ashok Kumar Malhotra Seva Faculty Award, will deliver a lecture titled “Rebuilding Haiti, One Bucket at a Time” on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the Craven Lounge at SUNY Oneonta’s Morris Conference Center. A dessert reception will precede the lecture, which starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, begins at 4 p.m. at the Red Dragon Theater in SUNY Oneonta’s Hunt College Union.
