SUNY Oneonta has received a three-year federal grant from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) to facilitate the National Partnership to Recruit, Prepare and Support Family and Consumer Science Educators, a collaboration with the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). The $747,525 award and matching funds from the three partner institutions provides a total of $936,572 to address the shortage of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) educators nationwide.

The 2017-18 academic year is off to a great start! The college welcomed a new president, Dr. Barbara Jean Morris, and more than 1,900 freshmen and new transfer students.

Summer interns at the SUNY Oneonta Biological Field Station in Cooperstown stumbled upon a surprise recently when they caught a 12-inch American eel more than 440 miles from the ocean in a habitat from which the species was thought to have been extirpated.

SUNY Oneonta students are making a difference in Puerto Rico this summer, assisting in recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria destroyed much of the U.S. territory’s lush landscape and many homes.

A group of 11 students recently returned from a service-learning trip there with geography faculty members Justin Hartnett and Trevor Fuller. Three other students – Ivette Mendoza, Julia Beattie and Jenna Ferraro – are among a select group of SUNY students chosen to participate in the “NY Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery and Rebuilding Initiative” organized by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.

In her 10 years as SUNY Oneonta's president, Dr. Nancy Kleniewski cheered on thousands of students during Pass Through the Pillars, a beloved tradition for graduating seniors and incoming freshmen. In June, it was her turn to pass through the pillars of Old Main, the college’s first building, signifying her time at Oneonta coming to an end.
