No, a professor can no longer ‘override’ a closed course, you must put yourself on the Waitlist.
- Go to myOneonta – Select Course Registration.
- Select term.
- On the Add or Drop Classes page, Enter the CRN of the Course you want to add and Submit Changes.
- Registration Error will display – Closed – ‘n’ Waitlisted (n = number of students on waitlist currently).
- Select **Waitlisted** from the ‘Action’ drop down menu and Submit Changes.
- Under ‘Status’ the course will show as **Waitlisted* on ‘today’s date’.
- Watch a video on waitlisting for a course.
No, you must choose to register for the course that has open seats OR go on the waitlist for a course that is closed (there is no guarantee a seat will become available).
- Go to myOneonta – Select Course Registration.
- Select term.
- On the Add or Drop Classes page, Select **Web Drop** from the ‘Action’ drop down menu for the course you want to remove yourself from the waitlist, and Submit Changes.
- The course will be removed from your Classes Worksheet.
- The seats that are showing as available in the course listing, are only available to the students on the Waitlist.
- When a student drops a course and there are students already on the waitlist the following happens:
- A seat frees up (which is the available seat you are seeing on the course listing).
- The first student on the waitlist gets a notification and has 12 or 24 hours to add/drop the course.
- After the 12 or 24 hours, if they do not add the class, the next person on the waitlist gets a notification for the one open seat and has 12 or 24 hours to add/drop the course.
- If no one on the waitlist registers for the course, then the seat becomes available to any student.
- Courses that have a lecture/lab component and there are two different CRNS, one for the lecture and one for the lab – ONLY the lab CRN will allow you to put yourself on the waitlist.
- How does this work?
- Select the lab time that works for your schedule (also keeping in mind you will eventually need the lecture time open as well should a seat become available in the lab section).
- Add yourself to the waitlist for the lab.
- When someone drops the lab section, they will also have to drop the lecture portion of the course as well.
- The first person on the waitlist for that lab section, will receive a notification that a seat is available and at that time they can go in to register for that lab section as well as the lecture.
- A student will not be able to register for the lecture without the lab as they are required to be taken together, so that is why the student only needs to waitlist the lab section. If a seat is available in the lab section, a seat will also be available in the lecture.
-
When a seat becomes available in the course and you are the first person on the waitlist, an email will be sent to your Oneonta email account. The email will tell you when you were notified and how long you have to register for the course.
- It is very important, at that time to go into myOneonta and register for the course before your time expires.
- Go to myOneonta – Select Course Registration.
- Select term.
- On the Add or Drop Classes page, Select **Web Registered** from the ‘Action’ drop down menu for the course you want to add yourself to, and Submit Changes.
- The course will be added to your Schedule.
-
During the add/drop period for registration (1st week of the semester), if you are still on the waitlist, you can contact the department to find out where you are on the waitlist. After talking with the department, you can make informed decisions about your schedule on whether to add another course or possibly getting a spot in the waitlisted course.
