There are several leadership opportunities in the residence halls at SUNY Oneonta.
- Resident Advisor - The Resident Advisor (RA) is a paraprofessional staff member who lives in a residence hall and oversees a floor of 10 - 30 students; they assist, support, and develop living/learning communities through various programmatic initiatives. RAs provide administrative support for the department and the SUNY Oneonta community. They facilitate policies and procedures, floor meetings, conduct peer counseling, attend hall government meetings, and provide on-call duty coverage during the semester. RAs are required to plan programs, attend training workshops, in-service sessions, and weekly staff meetings.
- Residence Hall Government (known as Hall Gov or Hall Counsel) - Residence Hall Government is the representative body of the residence hall you live in. It is the legislative voice of the residents. All hall governments operate under the guidelines of the Resident Student Organization (RSO).
- Hall Governments have the ability to hear student concerns and vote on resolutions pertaining to their residence hall. Students also creatively develop programs based on client needs. Hall Government plays an integral role with the Resident Student Organization. Hall Government representatives attend RSO meetings, sit on campus committees to affect change, and vote on fund disbursement to assist other club’s and organizational programs.
