Committee On Public Events

Public Events Funding Application, AY 2024-25

The Senate Committee on Public Events seeks applications

for funding of “public events” on the SUNY Oneonta campus for

Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.

Application Deadline: Friday April 19, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

Procedures of the Public Events Committee

Typical events that meet the “cultural and educational standards of SUNY Oneonta” include guest speakers; arts and cultural activities; readings; concerts and public performances; and presentations geared to increase the positive cultural relationship within and between SUNY Oneonta and the surrounding community.

Typical funding awards for this cycle are expected to range between $300-$800. Funding requests should demonstrate that substantial funding (preferably more than 50%) is sought from additional sources.

The “university sponsored” event should be held on campus and should benefit the entire campus community, NOT just a narrow interest group or population.

All proposals should include a budget and publicity plan and should adhere to University COVID guidelines.

The proposal must be submitted by a member of the faculty, staff, or a current or retired employee of SUNY Oneonta.

Instructions for Applying for Funding from the Public Events Committee
Faculty and staff interested in applying for funding from the Public Events Committee should be aware of the following criteria used to evaluate applications:

Proposals for AY 2024-25 must be received by Friday, April 19, 2024 @ 5:00 pm.

  • Proposals for events should include a commitment to follow any COVID-19 protocols affecting public events on the scheduled date of the event.
  • The event should benefit the campus community, not just a narrow interest group or population. It should have general appeal to a wide audience that may include students, faculty, staff and members of the community.
  • Funds may not be used to pay “internal honoraria” or speakers’ fees for faculty and staff of SUNY Oneonta.
  • The proposal should have a publicity plan in place, one that includes contacting SUNY Oneonta's public relations office about possible assistance in publicizing the event to the community.
  • The proposal must be submitted by a member of the faculty, staff, or a current or retired employee of SUNY Oneonta.
  • The event shall be “SUNY Oneonta sponsored.” Public events funding is not designed to subsidize events that primarily promote other organizations or groups in the community.
