The Music Department encourages students to become involved in extracurricular activities. Throughout the campus, students are involved in a wide range of projects, such as starting bands, organizing concerts and performing in operas and slam poetry contests. "Extracurricular activities help students to develop a well-rounded college experience and network within the art and music community. They also act as great resume builders."
The Student Association is funded by students through their student activity fee. The S.A oversees more than 100 different clubs and organizations. Each club overseen by the S.A. has a club constitution and the description of each club listed below is an excerpt from the club purpose section of the constitution belonging to that particular club.
The Apollo Music Club
Its purpose shall be to promote the cause of music as a fine art in the campus community. Its activities may include sponsorship of musical events, guest lectures and performers, exchange programs of student's musicians, promotion of high musical standards, service projects, fellowship of musicians, and other events of musical interest. Mask & Hammer
The purpose of Mask & Hammer shall be twofold:
- First, the organization shall be a club for the students of SUNY Oneonta to use as an outlet for theatrical creativity and growth by producing plays, musicals, and experimental theater projects.
- It shall also serve as a source of entertainment for the college and Oneonta community members who shall make up the audience.

The Members of Radio Station WONY, do unite to establish and maintain this station as a student organization and to adopt for its government this constitution and By-Laws. Our purpose is to provide news, education, and entertainment for our listening audience, and training experience in radio broadcasting and radio management for our staff. The Wire exists to enhance skills and experience in the field of video, audio and television production through interaction and hands-on experience by utilizing professional equipment, video-editing software and through shared experiences with other organizations and SUNY Oneonta. We also run the campus TV stations. If you're interested in a field in Music Video or on stations such as M T V this club is a must join.

Special Interest Groups
Our purpose is to enhance songwriting skills, refine previously written songs, learn more about the art form, provide a relaxed environment where constructive comments can be offered, assemble writers of many styles, promote co-writing and cultivate performance skills.
Drag'n Rolls Drumline
The SUNY Oneonta Drag 'N Rolls Drumline provides students a unique musical experience in marching percussion, and serves the campus community and represents the SUNY Oneonta community off-campus by performing in campus activities including, but not limited to, campus and community athletic events, formal ceremonies, parades, and other school functions. National Association for Music Merchandisers
The SUNY Oneonta Music Department is a NAMBI (Namm Affiliated Music Business Institution) school. NAMBI is an organization branch of NAMM (National Association for Music Merchandisers). The department each year takes a relatively inexpensive trip to Anaheim, California for the NAMM convention. At this convention, students meet with major music equipment merchandisers, build contacts, give out resumes, attend seminars and meet other music industry majors from all across the country.

National Association of Music Merchants
The International Music Products Association, commonly called NAMM in reference to the organization's popular NAMM trade shows, is the not-for-profit association that unifies, leads and strengthens the $16 billion global musical instruments and products industry. NAMM's activities and programs are designed to promote music making to people of all ages. NAMM is comprised of approximately 8,000 member companies. Association Mission: To unify, lead and strengthen the global music products industry and to increase active participation in music making.
Trade Shows: Two of NAMM's most important annual events are the trade shows held in January in Southern California and in July in Nashville. These two conventions, open only to NAMM members and the music products industry, attract tens of thousands of attendees who want to see new innovations and developments in music making. NAMM shows are unique because in addition to unifying the industry by bringing buyers and sellers together from around the world, the excess revenues from these popular events are funneled back into growing the music products industry.
Market Development: Over the past decade, NAMM has reinvested more than $20 million dollars from its trade shows into innovative, market-building programs and partnerships such as Sesame Street Music Works, Smithsonian Institution's Piano 300, Weekend Warriors, NewHorizons Band, and Music Making and Wellness. NAMM's outreach also includes advocacy efforts with such organizations and corporations as Disney, Miramax, Procter & Gamble, Texaco, VH1 (Save The Music) and the GRAMMY Foundation. In addition, NAMM has funded groundbreaking music/brain research that has helped to shape world opinion about the intrinsic value of music. The result: more active music makers and continued growth for NAMM Members.
The Marketing Club is an S.A affiliated student organization. Its officers are expected to manage our campus chapter of the American Marketing Association for the benefit of its student members as well as the many other constituencies which the Marketing Club endeavors to serve Some of the positions include but are not limited to Vice President of Computer Services, Fundraising, Community Service, Advertising, and Programs. Music Industry Club
The Music Industry Club, as an academic based organization, shall offer its members the opportunity to gain knowledge, insight, experience and artistic development in relation to the music industry by interacting with it on a local, regional, national, and global level. Interacting with the music industry shall be conducted through but not limited to, the organizing of trips, conferences, concerts, alumni events, panel discussions, reviewing and funding responsible proposals and the publication of a student based compilation album produced under the name Red. The Music Industry Club shall act as a liaison between the Music Department and the students enrolled in the Music Industry major by expressing the personal, technological, artistic and academic needs of students to the Music Department and the Administration governing the school. The Pre- Law Society is established to aid its members and assist in preparing them for a career in law. The pre-law organization is a great club to join and resume builder if you're interested in a career in the entertainment law field.
