Supporting Faculty Success at SUNY Oneonta

Renewal, Tenure, and Promotion (Full-Time Faculty)

SUNY Oneonta provides comprehensive support for faculty on the tenure track as they work toward renewal, continuing appointment (tenure), and promotion.
Resources include:

  • regular information and guidance sessions on the Renewal, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) processes;
  • an intuitive online portal for portfolio submission; and
  • personalized assistance from the Faculty Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship to curate strong portfolios.

These services reflect our commitment to helping faculty achieve professional milestones and thrive in their university careers. Candidates for tenure-track positions are encouraged to learn more about SUNY Oneonta’s various methods of supporting faculty development and achievement of effectiveness in the five areas prioritized by the SUNY Board of Trustees (mastery of subject matter, teaching/librarianship, scholarship, service, continuing growth).

Adjunct Faculty Promotion, Renewal and Evaluation

SUNY Oneonta is deeply committed to recognizing and fostering the professional growth of its part-time faculty. Through our Adjunct Renewal and Promotion processes, we provide a clear and structured pathway for continued engagement and advancement. These processes affirm the essential contributions of adjunct faculty to student success and the academic mission of the university, while offering opportunities for professional development and recognition.

Our approach emphasizes transparency, equity, and support. Renewal and promotion criteria are designed to value teaching effectiveness and ongoing pedagogical development, ensuring that adjunct faculty have access to meaningful feedback and resources to enhance their instructional practice. By investing in these processes and the teaching of part-time faculty, SUNY Oneonta demonstrates its dedication to creating an inclusive academic community where all educators—full-time and part-time—can make vital contributions to the university and thrive as professionals.
