The American Philosophical Society's Franklin Research Program is designed to help cover the costs of travel to libraries and archives; the purchase of microfilm, photocopies, or other similar research materials, costs associated with fieldwork, or laboratory related expenses. The deadlines for applications and two letters of support is typically October 1 (for work commencing February - January of the next year) and December 1 (for work in April - January of the next year).
The National Endowment for the Humanities is accepting applications for its 2024 Summer Stipends Program. The program awards up to $6,000 to stimulate new research in the humanities and its publication for a period of two consecutive months. Individuals pursuing advanced research at any stage of development, but particularly early-stage research and late-stage writing are encouraged to apply. NEH funds support travel and other costs involved with the proposed research as well as recipients’ compensation. The deadline for applications was September 20, 2023.
The National Endowment for the Humanities/ National Foundation on the Liberal Arts' Scholarly Editions and Translations Grants support the preparation of editions and translations of pre-existing texts of value to the humanities that are currently inaccessible or only available in inadequate editions or translations. These grants support full or part-time activities for periods of one to three years up to a maximum award amount of $300,000. Applications were available August 11, 2022 for an application deadline of November 29, 2023.
American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship program includes a joint fellowship with the New York Public Library as well as named awards from generous donors. ACLS invites research applications from scholars in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. The ultimate goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work. (Note the ACLS Fellowship program does not fund creative work, textbooks, translations, or pedagogical projects.) Fellowships are intended to be salary replacement to help scholars devote 6-12 months to research and writing. Application deadlines are typically in September and awards announced the following March.
Spencer Foundation Research Grants on Education: Small supports education research projects that contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived. Up to $50,000 available for projects of 1 - 5 years. Applications accepted 3 times per year. (Next application round opened June 1, 2023 with an application deadline of August 9, 2023.
American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT)- Venture Fund is a resource for AAPT members to promote the development and marketing of innovative teaching products and services for physics and other sciences.
The Longview Foundation offers grants for Internationalizing Teacher Preparation. Through this grant program the foundation supports efforts to expand teachers' global knowledge and skills. Preference is given to teacher preparation institutions that are connected to state or citywide systemic efforts. Grants range from $10,000 (for single institutions) to $30,000 (for multi-institutions). A short eligibility quiz and letter of inquiry is due by January 18, 2024 and invited full proposals are due by March 26, 2024.
NSF's Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) program supports a variety of development and implementation activities and research efforts to (1) bring recent advances in STEM disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge into undergraduate education, (2) adapt, improve, and incorporate evidence-based practices into STEM teaching and learning, and (3) lay the groundwork for institutional improvement. There are various proposal deadlines depending on the program track and funding level - typically deadlines are the third week in July and mid-January.
Russell Sage Foundation: Social Political and Economic Inequality Grants support innovative research that broadens the understanding of the causes and consequences of rising economic inequalities in the U.S. Research grants are available for up to $200,000 (including overhead) for two years and presidential awards of up to $50,000 with no overhead. A letter of inquiry (LOI) is required. If the Foundation determines that the project aligns with its priorities and available funding, the applicant will be invited to submit a full proposal. The next LOI deadline is November 7, 2023 with invited full proposals due by February 21, 2024.
The Camille & Henry Dreyfus Foundation offers award programs to advance the science of chemistry, chemical engineering, and related sciences as a means of improving human relations and circumstances throughout the world. Award programs include: Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program, deadline February 1, 2024; Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program, deadline August 3, 2023; Jean Dreyfus Lectureship for Undergraduate Institutions, deadline August 3, 2023.
