Departmental Honors

A degree with honors in an academic area is awarded to students who have completed at least 24 s.h. of course work at the university with a minimum 3.5 GPA, if recommended by the department concerned. Transfer students must complete 18 s.h. in the major at SUNY Oneonta and maintain a 3.5 GPA or better for department honors. Students may not qualify for department honors in an academic area for which they have not registered as a major.

For students enrolled in a Childhood Education Program, Education is considered the major academic area. For students enrolled in a Secondary Education Program, the academic field (Biology, Business Economics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, English, Foreign Language, Human Ecology, Mathematics, Physics, Social Science) is considered the major academic area.

A student with two major academic areas may qualify for honors in both areas.
