World Languages and Literatures students can pursue internships locally, nationally or abroad in fields like education, translation, media, international business or cultural organizations. These opportunities let you apply classroom knowledge, build your resume, network with professionals and explore career paths while earning credit.

Study Abroad

Expand your learning globally with SUNY Oneonta! Study abroad for a semester, year or summer through one of our study abroad and exchange international partner universities, attend a short faculty-led program, or choose from 1,000+ SUNY Programs Abroad. Our department has organized faculty-led trips to places such as San Andres, Colombia, and Paris, France, giving students the opportunity to practice their language skills, immerse themselves in new cultures and earn course credit while making unforgettable memories.

Gilman Scholarship Program

If you’re a U.S. undergraduate receiving a Pell Grant, you can apply for the Gilman Scholarship to fund study or internship abroad. This award helps make global learning accessible while gaining valuable international experience.

Trait d’Union French Club

Explore French language and culture in a fun, welcoming space. You do not need to speak French to join, just bring your curiosity through activities and conversations, you will make friends who share your interests and discover the richness of French culture together.

Hispanic Organization for Learning Advancement

Celebrate Hispanic heritage while building cultural awareness and community on campus. HOLA promotes learning, connection and appreciation of Hispanic culture through events, education and shared experiences open to all students.

You can practice your Spanish beyond the classroom while connecting with other students who love language and culture. The ADIÓS Club encourages bilingualism and cultural awareness through conversation, activities and community-building in a relaxed, welcoming space.

Asian Language Learning

Explore a variety of Asian languages while helping build linguistic and cultural diversity on campus. ALL supports language learning for beginners and students in Asian language courses through collaboration, practice and community.

Phi Sigma Iota – International Foreign Language Honor Society

If you excel in languages and cultures, Phi Sigma Iota recognizes your achievements at the highest level. Membership honors strong academic performance while connecting you to a global community, leadership opportunities and scholarships in language studies.
