SUNY Oneonta's Office of Health Careers provides structured support for students who are interested in a career in healthcare by demystifying the academic pathway and healthcare experience required to become competitive applicants to their intended health professional school discipline.
We provide comprehensive support for students seeking a career in healthcare, including guidance in scaffolding prerequisites for health professional school, facilitating acquisition of patient care experience (fields of human medicine and veterinary medicine), and support during the health professional school application process.
We host seminars and guest speakers and hold annual events including a Healthcare and Human Services Job Fair and Health Professional School Expo.
Pre-Health Advising Services
Pre-Health Students should familiarize themselves with the Pre-Health Professional course requirements within their intended health care discipline and the expectations of the schools to which they intend to apply.
Current students can schedule a Pre-Health Advising meeting in Navigate to discuss their pathway to a career in healthcare with one of our Pre-Health Advisors.
Alumni can email the Director for support and schedule a Pre-Health Advising meeting.
Healthcare Experience Support
Students seeking part-time or per diem employment or volunteer opportunities at healthcare facilities and animal care facilities can meet with our Community Employment Partnership Coordinator to discuss local and regional opportunity for clinical experience.
Students seeking healthcare related experience outside the Otsego County region can also meet with the staff in the Office of Health Careers for support in navigating clinical experience in other regions for during academic breaks and post-graduation.
We have a healthcare workforce development partnership at Bassett Healthcare Network to support Alumni working full-time at AO Fox Hospital in Oneonta, NY and Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY through the Bassett CARES initiative and an education and training partnership with Springbrook through the Springbrook Scholars program.
