First Things First! Podcast
SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College students and staff teamed up to produce First Things First!, a four-episode podcast to support, educate and build a community around the first-generation experience. Episodes are hosted on Spotify and were released in recognition of First Generation College Celebration Day.
Episode 1 "Career Development & Mentorship features two SUNY Oneonta first-generation student alumni. Gianna Boveri ‘20, health promotion coordinator at Hartwick College, and Will Rivera ‘07, crisis intervention director for the Opportunities of Otsego Violence Intervention Program, talk with current first-generation students about how their identity impacted their mental health and how they coped. The cast talks about campus resources and what self-care looks like for them.
Episode 2 "What's Next?" features SUNY Oneonta Alumni, Kyle Beckley Abourizk ‘08 and current Co-Founder and producer for Full Out Creative about What’s Next? In today's episode, we talk about the unique paths that each individual will take and how the transferable skills from your college experience can help leverage a successful career path.
Episode 3 "The Unpsoken Struggles" features students sharing their unspoken struggles with the pressure and expectations of being first in their family. They touch on support, imposter syndrome, and much more. Today's episode features SUNY alumni Britney Liddell ‘08 who is a Customer Service Supervisor at Golden Artists Colors and George Archundia, Associate Director, Orientation, Move In, and Welcome for SUNY Oneonta.
