Overview
SUNY Oneonta’s African American History minor provides students the opportunity to specialize in the study of African American peoples through the history discipline. This minor provides students a well-rounded, historical understanding of the African American experience within and beyond the United States that is separate but connected to other societal groups. African Americans cannot be easily lumped into the broad “people of color” category without flattening their rich historical experience; therefore, this minor exists to prevent appropriating and/or apportioning African American History to other populations who have a distinct history.
