Overview
SUNY Oneonta’s online Master of Science in Sport Coaching and Leadership prepares you to become the coach—and the leader—today’s athletes need. Through a our holistic and comprehensive program addressing the needs and educational requirements for sports coaches, you’ll learn how to develop athletes physically, mentally and emotionally while supporting their individual growth.
Who Should Apply
- Coaches and athletic directors at K-12 schools, colleges and sport and recreation facilities seeking to advance their careers;
- Current middle and high school teachers with ambitions to coach in the school setting;
- Adult learners who have a bachelor’s degree (in any field) and are interested in pursuing a coaching career; or
- Recent graduates or college seniors who are interested in preparing for a career in coaching.

What You'll Learn
Designed for working professionals and aspiring coaches, the program combines fully online coursework with experiential learning and opportunities to connect with professionals in the field. You’ll also explore diversity, equity and inclusion and the powerful role coaches play in shaping individuals, teams and communities.
Built for Flexibility
- Classes will be offered online in either 7- or 7.5-week increments and are asynchronous, with no "live" meeting times, so you can access readings and assignments on your own schedule and work at your own pace. Some components of each course will be offered synchronously, so you can learn from your peers and build a community within the program.
- If you attend full time, you can complete the program in one year (three semesters), with a 7-week summer session and courses offered in 7.5 blocks during the 15-week fall and spring semesters.

Credit for Prior Learning
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) enables you to leverage skills and knowledge acquired through life or work experience and apply it toward your degree. Contact the Coordinator of Transfer Articulation and Credit at admissions@oneonta.edu to inquire about qualifying CPL credits for this program.
Career Opportunities
Students graduating from the program will be prepared for careers as coaches or athletic directors at all levels, from K-12 to elite sport settings. Graduates will have a fully developed coaching portfolio that they will be able to use to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities to future employers.

How to Apply
Submit your graduate application and the $50 non-refundable application fee.
Submit the following required materials:
- Have your previous school send us your transcript showing a B.A. or B.S degree in any field with a GPA of at least a 2.8.
- Written statement explaining the purpose/goal for seeking the MS degree.
- Up to three letters of recommendation (at least one required) from applicants outside SUNY Oneonta.
