From the Economics Department Chair

Economics lies at the intersection of business and the liberal arts. It is a versatile major with many possible paths of study—from finance to social issues to sports, economics in indeed everywhere. The Economics major prepares students for a wide range of careers and postgraduate degrees. Our website provides information on the diverse employment and postgraduate placements of our recent alumni.

The Economics faculty have earned national visibility for their research and participation in professional organizations. Two Economics faculty members have received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Most importantly, faculty achievements are in support of our top priority: undergraduate education. As an Economics major, you will be assigned a faculty advisor who can help you devise a plan for your coursework that aligns with your interests and career goals. In our senior capstone course, students work one-on-one with a faculty member on an independent research project of their choosing. Along the way, we provide internship and experiential learning opportunities to help students prepare for life outside the classroom. Our newly renovated building (Alumni Hall) houses a computer lab with 12 Bloomberg terminals, a Student Innovation Space, several work study and conference rooms, and state-of-the-art classrooms.

We have a highly accessible network of alumni to assist as well. In collaboration with the Office of Alumni Engagement, the Economics Club hosts regular panel sessions with alumni in our Life After Graduation Series. Over the years, our alumni and faculty have endowed numerous scholarships and other funds dedicated to Economics majors—a testament to the impact our program has had on its stakeholders.

We understand that choosing a university and a major are significant decisions, and we are committed to providing you with the support and guidance you need to grow, live, and thrive during your time here. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions.
