Student Opportunities

Present Research

Every year, advanced Women’s and Gender Studies students share the results of their research, internships and advocacy work. You’ll see how WGS connects disciplines from biology to art and philosophy to sociology, while helping you turn classroom learning into meaningful community and global impact as a scholar-activist.

Join a Student Organization

You can connect with peers who care about equity, community and social change through the Women’s and Gender Studies Club. Open to all majors and identities, the club builds community, supports feminist voices on campus, and creates space for learning, dialogue and action.

Triota – Delta Beta Chapter, Women’s and Gender Studies Honor Society

Triota is the national honor society for Women’s and Gender Studies, celebrating feminist values like equity, diversity and academic excellence. As a SUNY Oneonta student, you may be eligible for induction after completing six WGS credits with a 3.0 GPA, connecting you to a supportive scholarly community nationwide.

Gender and Sexuality Alliance

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance offers a welcoming, supportive space for LGBTQIA+ students and allies. Through films, discussions and workshops, you can build community, learn together, challenge misconceptions and feel empowered to be proud of who you are.

Gender Equality and Right Society

Gender Equality and Rights Society brings students together to promote gender equity and awareness on campus. You’ll explore current gender issues, connect with helpful resources and organizations, and work with others who care about creating a more informed and inclusive community.

Special Events

Lavender Graduation Recognition

Lavender Graduation is a special spring ceremony that celebrates LGBTQIA students, faculty and staff for leadership, service and advocacy. You’ll be recognized for your contributions to diversity, inclusion and community at SUNY Oneonta.

Gender Out of Bounds

"Gender out of Bounds” is an annual event featuring informal faculty seminars, formal campus presentations and special guest lectures by visiting speakers. The series highlights the unexpected, even surprising ways in which we approach questions of gender and sexuality from diverse fields of study. In sharing how different disciplines approach gender as a core category of analysis, we make visible how gender matters: in our pedagogy, in our research, in our public discourse. At the same time, the "Gender out of Bounds" series emphasizes the centrality of interdisciplinary thinking to the field of Women's and Gender Studies, a field which forges connections across the humanities, sciences and social sciences.
