Title VI

What Is Title VI?

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. As a recipient of federal funding, SUNY Oneonta is committed to providing an educational and working environment free from discrimination prohibited by Title VI.

Title VI protections include discrimination and harassment based on actual or perceived shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics, when the conduct is based on race, color, or national origin. Title VI prohibits retaliation against an individual for reporting discrimination, participating in an investigation, or exercising rights protected under Title VI.
