Educational Technology Investigation Grants
The TLTC is pleased to announce the Educational Technology Investigation Grants.
The purpose of this program is to investigate educational technology in the classroom. The program intends to fund hardware and/or software up to $20,000, dependent on budget and quality of proposals, over a 1-year period for the faculty member to design, develop, and deploy a study of educational technology.
Academic departments are invited to submit a proposal (one proposal per department) to identify a classroom technology and explore how to best utilize that technology in teaching and learning and to demonstrate the effectiveness of its use through assessment.
Proposals should include:
- Cover Sheet: listing title, department, investigators and a brief abstract of the proposed work.
- Narrative: no more than 7-page description of the chosen technology, student cohort, proposed use, timeline, assessment plan, and relationship to departmental, divisional and college strategic plans.
- Budget: listing all equipment, software and other costs related to the proposal.
- Bio-Sketch: of the principal investigator and any co-investigators highlighting previous experience with technology and innovative instructional technology use in the classroom (1 page per investigator).
Proposals must be submitted to the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center (Milne Library B256) by 4 PM on October 31, 2018. The proposal(s) to be funded will be selected, and applicants notified, by December 10, 2018. Faculty in the successful program will receive funds to begin development by Spring Term 2019.
In addition to assessment and sharing of program outcomes as described in the proposal, program faculty will submit a report to disseminate assessment or evaluation findings from the project to the campus community. These will be due in May of 2019. Publication of scholarly works related to the work conducted under this program is encouraged and reasonable publication costs will be funded as part of the award.
Eligibility: All academic departments at the College are eligible.
A committee of Deans, the Chair of the ETC, the Director of the Faculty Center, the CIO, and the Director of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center will recommend successful proposals for funding to the Provost’s Office.
The proposal evaluation criteria include:
- Anticipated student learning outcomes are clearly stated, with clear articulation of how the chosen technology will be used to achieve them.
- Any costs that students will be expected to bear are outlined and are reasonable in light of the benefits.
- How the project goals and outcomes will be assessed is clearly stated.
- How the outcomes will be shared with colleagues is clearly stated.
- How the project goals are directly aligned with the College’s Strategic Plan
