Overview
SUNY Oneonta’s Educational Psychology major explores how people learn and retain knowledge in formal and informal educational settings such as classrooms, nature centers, museums and health care. Areas of focus include human growth and development as learners, teaching and motivation techniques, testing and assessment methods, psychometrics, learning environments, impediments to learning, and technology in learning.

What You'll Learn
Over the course of your studies, you will:
- understand how cognitive, social and emotional development shape how people grow, learn and thrive, and apply these ideas through clinical field experiences and other hands-on learning opportunities;
- explore how society has shaped our understanding of disability, learning differences and neurodivergence, including the roles of race, class, gender and identity;
- understand common mental health challenges in schools and how they can affect students’ social, emotional and academic well-being; and
- gain a strong understanding of today’s educational settings and learn how to evaluate what makes them effective.
