SUNY Oneonta is the perfect size—big enough to be exciting and small enough to be personal. We offer 62 majors and programs and over 50 minors, each designed to prepare you to launch a successful career or continue your education in grad school. On campus, you’ll get the best of both academic worlds: small classes and personal attention, plus top-notch facilities, like our digital planetarium, professional TV studio and human anatomy lab. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn outside the classroom, too, whether it’s through an internship, one of more than 1000 study abroad programs or research with a faculty member.
To help you make a smooth transition to college, our First-Year Experience program offers fun activities, freshmen-only residence halls and lots of personal support. Our campus community is friendly and welcoming, and with more than 150 student organizations—from the Accounting Society to the Zombie Defense Corps—it’s easy to get involved.
We invite you to come for a visit to explore these opportunities firsthand, and if Oneonta seems like the right place for you, we look forward to working with you on your application. Connect with us at any time along the way—we’re here to help!
We welcome a freshman class of about 1,300-1,400 students each year. We look for well-rounded applicants who show the potential to succeed in a rigorous academic environment and the desire to get involved in our campus community.
Applicants must be graduates of an accredited secondary school or have evidence of equivalent education. Regents-level classes are a minimum requirement for New York state applicants, with Advanced Placement and honors courses carrying the most weight. A challenging college preparatory program is highly recommended.
Admissions decisions are based on a variety of factors, including high school GPA and coursework, the results of SAT I or ACT exams, extracurricular activities, essays and letters of recommendation.
