SUNY Oneonta student Barbara Gang

Barbara Gang '26

Recipient of the Elsie Mae Lorenz Frost Scholarship

I am a sophomore studying Early Childhood/Childhood Education. I am extremely grateful to have received the Elsie Mae Lorenz Frost Scholarship. As a result of receiving this scholarship I am able to continue my studies and involvement on campus. On campus I enjoy being part of the Terpsichorean Dance Company. In addition, I volunteer at a local elementary school. I hope to be an elementary school teacher some day because I have a passion for working with children. My goal is to teach children and support them in developing in all areas including cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. I am committed to working and becoming a teacher and someday helping future SUNY Oneonta students as you have helped me.

Recipient of the Class of 1981 Scholarship

I am currently studying abroad this semester in London so the financial burden on myself and my parents is greater than normal, but this experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me! As an art student, I love the fact that I am able to experience all the old and new art museums in London and beyond this semester. This scholarship, in part, helped me do this. I am committed to using this scholarship to take advantage of every opportunity I can while studying abroad.

Recipient of the A.J. Read Scholarship for Science & Science Education Students

These last few years, SUNY Oneonta has facilitated a healthy learning environment and has brought about multiple opportunities for my future career. One of these opportunities is an internship with the Wastewater Treatment plant I have received for this school year. This scholarship is important to me because it helps reduce the financial burden of my education and makes it more affordable for me to pursue my academic goals. This scholarship really does have a huge impact on my family and me.

Recipient of the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O'Connor Foundation Scholarship

I've been attending SUNY Oneonta while working, as well as helping my mother and father on our family farm. The amount of work can be stressful, but receiving financial aid and scholarships provides so much encouragement! I hope to be someone my family, my community, my school, and I can be proud of. You've helped me immensely in working towards that reality!

Recipient of the James '75 and Mary Susan Ajello Internship Fund

My internship experience at the Assemblymember’s office had many positive benefits! It absolutely helped to build my resume before I prepared for the post-graduation job search. I became a more confident communicator by handling all kinds of correspondence and meeting requests for the office from constituents, and I also gained confidence in myself because I was encouraged to take on more high-level projects that involved contributing ideas as a staff member would. All of this led to me feeling ahead of the curve when I started my first full-time job after graduation.

Lynne Morris Memorial Scholarship and Stephanie Nogid Scholarship

My college experience so far has been amazing and has changed my life for the better. My academic and athletic careers at SUNY Oneonta have been a dream come true for myself, my family, friends, and the people in my community that look up to me. I will never forget the friendships and bonds I have made with the people that I've met during my time on campus. I'm grateful for the scholarships that I have received because they have allowed me to be on this journey and continue to grow and develop.

Dr. Warren & Mrs. Rita Wellman Scholarship for Study Abroad

Studying abroad was an amazing experience for me academically. It was so enlightening to see and experience academics in a different country, and to see how a different university operated. Learning about Greek language and culture was an extremely enriching experience. It allowed me to connect and network with Greek students at the university who I am still in contact with! I hope that after graduation I can use these connections, especially since I want to pursue an international career. Since I committed to SUNY Oneonta in 2019, I knew I wanted to study abroad. It was a dream of mine since high school, and this scholarship made the dream become a reality.

Student Research & Creative Activity Participant

This project gave me an incredible leadership opportunity and insight into how the fashion industry works. This project also puts me ahead because I worked with a real brand to create a promotional event. It was an incredible experiential learning opportunity, and I could never thank you enough for the opportunities I have gotten here at SUNY Oneonta. The support I have gotten from donors, faculty, and alumni has been incredible. I hope one day I can help students here again like I have been helped.
