Overview

Founded in 1970, the Africana and Latinx Studies (ALS) Department integrates Black and Latinx Studies with a strong commitment to social justice. Through interdisciplinary courses and engaged scholarship, students examine global issues such as racism, inequality, migration, gender violence and resistance, while working alongside faculty on local and global social justice initiatives.

Hub for Social Justice

The Dr. Ralph R. Watkins Hub for Social Justice advances projects for social justice on campus, supports the Social Justice Studies minor and advocate for social justice, locally and globally.

Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence (CRJIE)

Operating within the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence (CRJIE, pronounced “Surge-y”) sponsors a variety of educational programs, social events and community-building activities for all members of the SUNY Oneonta community. The Center aims to teach, foster and celebrate the diversity of the campus by advancing equity, inclusion and social justice throughout the community.
