Freshman Requirements

SUNY Oneonta welcomes a freshman class of about 1,100 students each year.  We look for well-rounded applicants who show the potential to succeed in a rigorous academic environment and the desire to get involved in our campus community. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited secondary school or have evidence of equivalent education.

We've found that the best measure of academic potential is past achievement. Course selection and grades along with class rank, senior-year courseload, Regents scores (for New York state applicants), and standardized test scores are all considered during the review process. Students admitted to SUNY Oneonta typically rank in the top 50% of their class.

Successful applicants will have completed 4 units of English, history, math and science, and 3-4 units of foreign language during high school. Regents-level classes are a minimum requirement for New York state applicants, with Advanced Placement and honors courses carrying the most weight. A challenging college preparatory program is highly recommended.
