Operating alongside its traditional coursework, the Theatre Department's productions serve as valuable laboratories in which the theories and skills learned in courses are applied and further developed.
A selection of shows are produced each year which call upon a variety of themes, genres, cultures, time periods, and styles. Shows are selected to help realize the educational goals of the department, as well as to contribute to the cultural enrichment of the campus and surrounding community. For a listing of shows the department has produced in the past, see the Production Archive.
Shows are produced in the two theaters managed by the department, both located in the Fine Arts Center. The Hamblin Theater, a flexible black-box space, provides opportunities for intimate story-telling in a variety of non-traditional configurations. The Goodrich Theater, a traditional proscenium-style space, allows for epic story-telling in front of large audiences.
The Theatre Department welcomes students from across SUNY Oneonta to participate in productions. Onstage and off, more roles are available that can be filled by majors alone. Any student involved in a production may register to earn academic credit in Theatre Practicum.
