Influenza Information and FAQ

Seasonal Influenza (Flu) is a respiratory illness caused by the Influenza Virus.

Symptoms of influenza

Presenting symptoms are like those of COVID19 and may include fevers or chills, body aches, sore throat, fatigue, congestion or runny nose, headaches, vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Types of testing

The Health Center has rapid testing for influenza available for symptomatic students. Call the Health Center for an appointment if you are feeling ill.

Preventing influenza

The best way to prevent the Flu is to get an annual Flu vaccine. The Health Center sponsored vaccine clinics on campus in the fall. If you have not yet received the flu vaccine it remains available at local pharmacies through the end of flu season, which lasts until April.

Taking everyday actions to reduce the spread of flu include avoiding close contact with people who are sick, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, washing your hands often, and avoid touching your face.

If you are diagnosed with the flu the CDC recommends you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone.

All student information held at the Health Center is strictly confidential and will not be released without written or phone consent by the student and/or as required by law. Students under 18 years of age, must have parental permission to be seen and treated at the Health Center except for emergency situations, emancipated minors, or reproductive health issues.
