College Foundation Receives Four-Star Rating

The State University College at Oneonta Foundation has once again received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, making it only one of two foundations for educational/scholarship support in New York State with such a distinction, and the only college foundation with this rating in Central New York.

According to Charity Navigator, the SUNY Oneonta College Foundation exceeded industry standards and outperformed most of the 1.5 million charities in the U.S. It is the College Foundation’s eighth consecutive four-star rating. Only 4 percent of charities evaluated in the U.S. received a four-star rating eight consecutive times.

“It’s a stamp of approval that says the SUNY Oneonta College Foundation adheres to best practices and executes its mission effectively and prudently,” said Paul Adamo, SUNY Oneonta vice president for college advancement and the College Foundation’s executive director.

Charity Navigator evaluates non-profit organizations and guides donors with data and information for their charitable giving decisions. This four-star rating recognizes the foundation’s financial strength and commitments to accountability and transparency. Charity Navigator’s process makes it the leading charity evaluator in the nation, and its highly effective method of applying data analysis has been profiled by TIME magazine, Forbes, Business Week and Kiplinger's Financial Magazine.

“It is also a salute to the members of our board of directors for their dedication and diligence in raising gifts and grants for campus programs and endowment, and keeping current our policies, bylaws and financial statements,” Adamo added.

In addition to SUNY Oneonta’s Charity Navigator four-star rating, the College Foundation has also earned a GuideStar's Platinum Seal of Transparency by voluntarily sharing the measures of progress and results it uses to pursue its mission. Nonprofit organizations earn Platinum Seals by selecting from a catalog of over 900 expert-recognized metrics or by creating a new metric that best fits their work.

GuideStar is the world's leading source of information about nonprofit organizations, with over 1.6 million nonprofit profiles, nine million annual visitors and over 200 data partners.
