The Office of Sustainability coordinates efforts across the campus to educate and engage with sustainability, one of our three core values, through events and initiatives like Green Dragon Week and sustainability designated courses, and to support the operation and planning of our campus with environmental conservation and efficiency as top priorities. There are many ways for students to get involved to make a difference on our campus and our planet!

SUNY Sustainability Conference

Hosted by SUNY Oneonta, the 2025 conference will take place June 11-12 and provides an opportunity for professionals from a variety of sustainability-related roles at SUNY colleges and beyond to connect and learn from one another.

Red Dragon Thrift Shop

Gently used clothes, dorm and apartment decor, and small housewares are available to the campus and community at pay-as-you-wish prices.

Campus Thrift Store Reopens in New Location

Move In and Move Out

Each fall, student recycling ambassadors work during first-year student move in to collect plastic film, styrofoam and cardboard to be recycled.

Each spring, gently used items are collected from students as they move off campus, and the goods are made available for free at an annual event.

Green Dragon Week

SUNY Oneonta’s annual Green Dragon Week is a campus-wide celebration of sustainability, environmental action, and community engagement packed with opportunities to learn, connect, and make a difference.

Green Room Certification

The Green Room Certification is a chance for SUNY Oneonta campus residents to take small actions to make a big difference in their dorm room and receive recognition. Students are encouraged to make commitments in categories such as participation and engagement, waste, water, energy and personal.

Green Office Certification

The Green Office Certification project gives faculty and staff the opportunity to improve their sustainability efforts at SUNY Oneonta and to be recognized for their commitment to reduce office waste, purchasing, energy and natural resources, and printing.

Ways to Get Involved

EcoReps

Office of Sustainability student volunteers support programs and initiatives that integrate sustainability across campus.

Internships

Office of Sustainability student interns assist with projects such as the Thrift Store, waste reduction, coordinating EcoReps, and Green Room Certification.

Sustainability RAs

An RA in each residential hall works with the Office of Sustainability to act as a sustainability resource and engage residents in sustainability initiatives promoting waste reduction and resource conservation in the hall.
