Families | Academic Advisement

Welcome to the Red Dragon Family! The Academic Advisement Team is excited to work with students as they navigate their college experience. Solutions for Parents

Academic Advisement Services

The Academic Advisement Team is here to assist students with a variety of services including:

Course Selection and Registration

Academic Advisors are available to help students plan their course selection to meet their degree requirements. Students are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisor or a member of the Academic Advisement Team each semester.

The Office of the Registrar lists key dates students must be aware of to register for their courses. Additionally, students are encouraged to utilize tutorial videos to familiarize themselves with the registration process in advance of their registration date.

Grading and Academic Information Access

Student records are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This act prohibits SUNY Oneonta from releasing academic information, such as grades, majors and enrollment status without the consent of the student. The Academic Advisement Team strongly suggests that students communicate with their families about academic matters, when appropriate. This supports Advisement's mission statement to nurture the development of self-sufficient, responsible students.

Majors and Careers

No matter where a person is in their life, it is never too early, or too late, to start planning for the future. SUNY Oneonta helps students find their focus through a variety of career exploration tools and techniques. Review the resources below to get started:

Processes and Forms

All academic record changes must be made through formal submission of required forms. Students must submit their forms via their Oneonta email or in person to the appropriate office.

Visit our Forms page to learn more about the process.
