The Carnegie Foundation has announced that SUNY Oneonta is one of the 119 U.S. colleges and universities to receive the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, an elective designation that indicates institutional commitment to community engagement.
This classification is awarded following a process of self-study by each institution, which is then assessed by a national review committee led by the Swearer Center for Public Engagement at Brown University, the administrative and research home for the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification.

Just one week before he became a five-time Grammy Award winner, musician/producer Finneas O’Connell spoke to SUNY Oneonta music industry students about what it was like recording a hit album with his sister, superstar Billie Eilish. It was just one of the memorable moments students experienced last week while attending the world’s largest music products trade show, The NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Show, from Jan. 16-19 in Anaheim, Calif.
Dr. Temple Grandin, a leading advocate for the autistic community, will share her thoughts and experiences in the presentation “Connecting Animal Science and Autism” on Wednesday, November 20, at 6:30 p.m. in SUNY Oneonta’s Alumni Field House. Grandin will share her perspective on why all kinds of minds are needed to help solve the world’s problems.
SUNY Oneonta’s Theatre Department, along with the Mask and Hammer student theatre club, will present “Disgraced” at Goodrich Theater in the college’s Fine Arts Center on November 6, 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and November 10 at 2 p.m.
The show is particularly exciting because many of the students involved in the production of the play had the opportunity to meet its author, Ayad Akhtar, when he came to campus in September to deliver the Mills Distinguished Lecture.
